BMR Calculator
The calories your body uses at complete rest, from age, sex, height and weight. Informational only.
BMR
How it works
Men: BMR = 10 × weight + 6.25 × height − 5 × age + 5 Women: BMR = 10 × weight + 6.25 × height − 5 × age − 161 (weight in kg, height in cm)
Worked example: a 30-year-old man, 175 cm, 75 kg. BMR = 750 + 1,093.75 − 150 + 5 = 1,698.75, shown as about 1,699 calories a day at rest.
Frequently asked questions
What is BMR?
Basal metabolic rate is the energy your body needs at complete rest — to breathe, keep warm and keep organs working. It does not include any activity.
Why does the formula differ for men and women?
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation uses different constants because, on average, body composition differs. It is still an estimate for any individual.
Is BMR the same as daily calorie needs?
No. Daily needs (TDEE) are BMR multiplied by an activity factor, because you move, work and exercise during the day.
Is this medical advice?
No. This is an informational estimate. For a personal nutrition plan, speak to a clinician or registered dietitian.
